Popular Talks
Particles of Faith: How Chemistry Led Me to Christ
Stacy Trasancos, author of Particles of Faith: A Catholic Guide to Navigating Science, was a chemist before she was Catholic. She tells the story of how her love for science was a search for truth, from childhood awe and wonder to research in a state-of-the-art laboratory trying to simulate photosynthesis on nanocomposite designs. Through her narrative, she explains how materialistic thinking pervades our science-obsessed culture and offers solutions to lead others to Christ through science.
Science Was Born of Christianity: The Role of Christianity in the Development of Modern Science
The public narrative is that faith and science contradict, but the birth of modern science can be traced all the way back to Genesis 1:1. The Christian worldview is, and always has been, radically different from any other religion. This fact-filled talk from Science Was Born of Christianity: The Teaching of Fr. Stanley L. Jaki equips Catholics to engage the world in confidence and defend the truth of Jesus Christ in a technological age. Science, as mature and independent as it has grown, needs its Mother.
An Unholy Science: The Past, Present, and Future of Fetal Tissue Research
Dr. Stacy Trasancos began following fetal tissue research two decades ago when her children were young, and she first learned of this practice for vaccine development. The use of aborted children in biological and medical research is astounding and pervasive — and utterly heartbreaking. We are already living in a world where the wanted in society are being cured by exploiting the unwanted. This is a difficult but necessary talk. We must do something to end the use of aborted children in research, and it begins with awareness.
Eucharistic Miracles and the Data
This talk is not the usual Eucharistic miracle talk. Chemist and theologian, Stacy Trasancos, and co-author of the new book, Behold, It Is I: Scripture, Tradition, and Science on the Real Presence, weaves together the most popular Eucharistic miracles. Dr. Stacy Trasancos analyzes the popular Eucharistic miracles reported in Bolsena and Lanciano, Italy, and Buenos Aires, Argentina, with a twenty-first-century chemist’s objectivity. Then she leads you from modern science right back to the Word
Evolution for Believers
What are Catholics to make of evolution? Did Adam and Eve really exist? Who are Y-Chromosome Adam and Mitochondrial Eve? Did we evolve from atoms? Is evolution a fact or a theory? How do we read Genesis? What does the Church teach about evolution? Stacy Trasancos walks you through the theology and the science of evolution with simple and clear explanations that lay the foundation for navigating the more complex questions facing theologians and scientists today.
Bioethics: 20 Answers
Stacy Trasancos, Ph.D. is the author of Catholic Answers’ booklet, 20 Answers: Bioethics. In this talk, she describes Catholic teaching on the major issues from conception to natural death. The word “bioethics” describes an approach to human dignity as old as the Church itself. Dr. Trasancos reviews personhood, contraception, abortion, fetal tissue research, gene editing, brain death, organ donation, and transhumanism—a critical talk for our moment in history and leading the way forward in science.
How to Bind Your Children to Heaven
Stacy offers real life advise and experience on how to hold your children close in your heart while letting them go as they grow up. Being open to life in the young adult years is one thing, but remaining open to all that life throws your way as you raise your children in the faith requires seasoned tools and approaches. More than anything, it requires prayer and a strong life of faith for the parent. We do all the hard work of parenting because we are not just open to life in this life but open to everlasting life in Heaven.
Catholic Studies Professor to Deliver Invited Lecture at University of Notre Dame
On the evening of the Gold Mass, Catholic Studies Adjunct Professor Trasancos will deliver the Edison Lecture titled “God, Angels and Electromagnetic Radiation: Life Among the Invisible.” In this talk, Trasancos will explore the ways in which the wonders of modern science can bring us to greater appreciation and awe of God. As Trasancos explained, “all we have learned — and have yet to learn — is magnificent evidence of the faithfulness of a loving and personal Creator.”
